Newbridge Learning Community

Vision for Teaching and Learning

At Newbridge, we believe that every pupil holds more potential than they realise — and it is our mission to help them discover it. We are committed to creating a learning environment where every young person, particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, feels safe, valued, and inspired to grow.

Our Values – Community, Compassion, Courage and Competence

Our vision is rooted in the belief that meaningful education is more than academic progress — it is about nurturing the whole child. We strive to build a community where pupils experience a deep sense of belonging and contribution; where compassion is shown through understanding, acceptance, and positive relationships; where courage is encouraged by supporting pupils to take risks, embrace challenges, and believe in themselves; and where competence is developed through high-quality teaching that equips learners with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence they need for success in school and life.

Rosenshine

We draw on Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, thoughtfully adapted to the needs of our SEMH learners, to deliver an inclusive, structured and engaging curriculum. Our teaching is characterised by clarity, consistency, and care — with lessons that are scaffolded, responsive and designed to support emotional regulation, build independence and foster resilience for all our pupils.

Relationship first approach

At the heart of our practice is the commitment to provide every pupil with the right conditions to flourish. We always prioritise positive relationships and make sure to create safe and predictable learning environments where all teaching is ambitious, adaptive and rooted in evidence-based strategies. Through regular review, thoughtful questioning and constructive feedback, we help our pupils make meaningful progress, reflect on their learning and develop lifelong habits of curiosity and perseverance.

Celebration of Success

At Newbridge, we celebrate success at every level and work together — staff, pupils, and families — to remove barriers, challenge low expectations and champion every learner’s journey. In doing so, we aim to shape confident individuals who are not only academically prepared but emotionally equipped to navigate the world with integrity, empathy, and purpose.

We are all better than we know

Our vision is not just to educate, but to transform — to show every pupil that they are seen, supported, and capable of achieving far more than they ever imagined and show every pupil :  ‘We are all better than we know!’

Vision and Values for Behaviour

At Newbridge, we believe that behaviour is a form of communication, not a problem to be controlled. Our vision is to create a school community where all pupils feel safe, seen and supported — and where their growth, both academic and emotional, is nurtured with care, consistency and ambition.

Guided by our core values of Community, Compassion, Courage, and Competence, we are committed to a relational, trauma-informed approach that prioritises belonging over compliance, empathy over punishment and support over shame; while ensuring expectations are high and boundaries are clear.

Connection

We build a strong culture of connection through daily check-ins, restorative practices and inclusive reward systems that promote shared responsibility. At Newbridge, we recognise distress as a signal of unmet need and respond with calm, empathy and flexible support strategies, ensuring every child knows: “You are not alone and you can come back from this.”

Structure and high expectations

Through structured routines, high expectations and personalised learning pathways, we enable pupils to experience success, rebuild trust, and take safe risks. Our environment supports co-regulation, emotional literacy and self-belief — equipping every learner not just to manage their behaviour, but to understand and grow from it.

Choices, relationships and boundaries

We believe that all pupils can learn to make positive choices when they are guided by respectful relationships, empowered through consistent boundaries and celebrated for their progress — however small.

Teach, connect and heal

Ultimately, our vision is to create a school where every moment — whether calm or in crisis — is an opportunity to teach, connect, heal and move forward.
