Intent
Our curriculum is designed to be comprehensive, inclusive and aspirational, with the clear aim of developing the whole young person — academically, socially and emotionally.
We intend to:
- Deliver a curriculum that is broad, balanced, and responsive to individual need
- Promote personal development through a rich programme of cultural and community experiences
- Raise aspirations and unlock hidden talents, showing pupils they are capable of more than they believe
- Prepare for, and support access to a range of challenging and meaningful accreditations
- Embed an unshakeable belief that all pupils can achieve, regardless of background or need
Implementation
Our curriculum offer includes both academic and vocational pathways, carefully structured to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH and complex SEND. It is regularly reviewed to ensure content remains relevant, engaging and appropriately sequenced for all ability levels.
KS3 Subjects Include:
- Core: English, Maths, Science
- Compulsory: PSHE and PE
- Humanities & Languages: History, Geography, Spanish
- Creative & Practical: Art, Design & Technology, Cooking & Nutrition, Music, IT/Computing
- Personal Development: Morals & Ethics (PSHE), Citizenship, Careers, Nurture, Physical Education
- Enrichment: Duke of Edinburgh – Bronze Award
We ensure:
- Lessons are delivered using a consistent, research-informed approach, including the Rosenshine Principles
- Pupils are supported to develop key skills (e.g., oracy, problem-solving, literacy, resilience)
- Vocational learning and alternative provision experiences (e.g., sport, music tech, motor vehicle, health & beauty) are integrated where appropriate
- Cultural capital is built through enrichment activities, trips and community engagement opportunities
Impact
Our curriculum results in:
- Pupils making strong academic and personal progress from their individual starting points
- Improved engagement, confidence and self-belief
- A clear sense of purpose, with pupils developing the skills needed for independence, further education or employment
- Access to and achievement in a range of challenging accreditations that reflect their abilities and prepare them for the future
