COMMUNITY COURAGE COMPASSION COMPETENCE

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

Empowering our pupils with purpose, confidence, and a future.

At Newbridge Learning Community, we believe every young person deserves access to meaningful career opportunities, regardless of their background or individual barriers. Our pupils, aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, are supported to explore, plan and prepare for successful transitions into further education, employment or training.

We embed high-quality CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) into our curriculum to ensure all pupils leave with the skills, qualifications and confidence to pursue their next steps.

Our Careers Vision

“Inspiring Futures: Supporting Every Learner to Find Their Path”

Through a values-led approach rooted in Community, Courage, Compassion and Competence, we aim to:

  • Broaden horizons and raise aspirations.
  • Provide practical and personalised guidance for each pupil.
  • Offer real-world experiences of the workplace and post-16 pathways.
  • Ensure no young person leaves without a clear and supported plan.
What Careers Education Looks Like at Newbridge

Key Components of Our CEIAG Programme:

  • 1:1 Careers Interviews with our independent Level 6 qualified Careers Adviser.
  • Personalised Careers Action Plans from Year 9 onwards.
  • Annual Careers Week featuring guest speakers, workplace visits and interactive workshops.
  • Post-16 Transition Planning in close partnership with parents/carers and local providers.
  • Employer Encounters including mock interviews, work tasters, and enterprise projects.
  • Vocational Learning & Life Skills embedded across curriculum (construction, public services, mechanics, catering, budgeting etc).
  • Enrichment Activities such as Duke of Edinburgh Award, volunteering, and leadership roles.
  • Supported Visits to colleges, training centres and open days.
Measuring Impact

We regularly review our careers programme against the Gatsby Benchmarks and the CDI (Careers Development Institute) Framework to ensure high standards. We track the destination data of our Year 11 leavers to ensure all pupils move into sustained education, training or employment.

Our work is overseen by the school’s Careers Lead, Dawn Robson, and regularly evaluated with input from:

  • Pupils (via pupil voice and feedback)
  • Families
  • Independent Careers Advisor: Ms Sharon O’Hara – Aspiring Futures
  • Local employers
  • Partner colleges and training providers
  • Governors and leadership team
